Ethiopia needs nexus among peace, humanity and development, according to President Sahlework Zewdie.
Speaking at the 61st celebration of Red Cross and Red Crescent Day today, she noted that there has been no integration among peace, humanity and development.
“Thus, it is crucial to nexus them sustainably,” she pointed out, adding that those and others could challenge the reform if they remain unsolved with integration.
Ethiopian Red Cross Society Patron President Sahlework said ERCS is doing timely and great things in Ethiopia. But “humanitarian assistance alone is not a goal, we need to solve root causes of conflicts and displacements for sustainable peace and development.”
“Nothing could be solved with a humanitarian assistance alone,” the patron stressed, further stating that “concerned bodies need to create nexus among peace, humanity and development as government alone cannot cover all.”
ERCS, with a membership of some 5.5 million members and 40,000 volunteers nationwide, has managed to collect over 40 million birr for humanitarian assistance during the past few months.
Ethiopian Red Cross Society patron Sahlework on the occasion launched a campaign members initiated to double members and volunteers within six months.
The society works in partnership with the Ethiopian Government, IFRC, International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC), partnering national societies, members, volunteers and communities.
